Math is fun and our activities prove that! It is believed that the fundamentals of mathematics can be taught by activity based lessons.
Year 2 began with counting and partitioning . Students used different strategies in counting, partitioning adding and subtracting numbers they had fun in playing with numbers. They used their kinesethic skills to explore more, on numbers and its different uses in real life situation. It was certainly an enriching experience for the Students and teachers as well! Math club is a learning place where students of varying abilities and learning styles are motivated to enjoy math and spend more time learning the subject matter. Grade 3 students had such an amazing learning experience. Children enjoyed making 3d shapes using paper. This activity stimulated creative thinking while developing their measuring and problem-solving skills. Outside the classroom, there are countless creative opportunities for maths. Children can explore the immediate school environment to practice measurement skills that involve length, weight, capacity, volume, area, time, angles and temperature. This is what was witnessed in year 6. Students had a first hand experience to use trundle wheel measuring different distances around the school.
The group activity below is pretty effective for engaging kids and gets them thinking about and understanding this concept of a Triangular Number. A great activity for younger children with a number of possibilities for extension. The student were given scenario where they had to show the number of handshakes possible between 6 people. The way students participated in this activity was an exemplar. Yr 6 students had an opportunity to lighten up and add some fun to learning “use of brackets” through chip chop activity.
Students had a good first hand experience challenging their peers which also proved to be a very good way of reinforcing the BODMAS RULE. Looking for a way to make math matter to your fifth grader? Here's an activity that will get your child's attention and help in developing children's number sense and their understanding of place value which will enhance their decimal skills. It was a delight to watch year 5 students engaged in making decimal numbers in pairs using decimal digit cards. Each in a pair making a number and then further applying basic operations to them as a pair. |
